2018 U.S. Champion Sam Shankland visited his elementary school Nov 7th, and yes, chess was played.

It has been nearly 20 years since I graduated Glorietta Elementary, but yesterday I came back to my old Alma Mater for the first time in a very, very long time. It was so great to see such an energetic and promising crop of young minds! And of course, major props to The Berkeley Chess School for keeping their chess program going strong for all this time. My life would be so different if I hadn’t wandered into the after school class in fourth grade!”
