The Berkeley Chess School offers classes for adults ranging from novice to intermediate on Thursday evenings at The Berkeley Chess School and online on Wednesday evenings.

  • These classes are for beginner players who already know piece movement and for the intermediate player. Topics covered include: castling, pawn promotion, en passant, opening principles, and elementary tactics and strategy.

If you are unsure if this class is for you, you may attend the class one time free of charge to see if it is a good fit. Please email info@berkeleychessschool.org to reserve your space.

We offer seminars for the advanced player as well.

If you want USChess and FIDE rated tournaments, please see our list of tournaments.

We also facilitate private, one-on-one lessons, which are arranged by the student with the chess instructor. Payment for these classes is paid directly to the chess instructor. If you would like private lessons, please email elizabeth@berkeleychessschool.org. Include a description of your previous chess experience and USCF rating, if applicable, and we will connect you with an instructor who can meet your needs.
