Teach for The Berkeley Chess School!

We are ALWAYS hiring teachers for our programs in schools throughout the Bay Area. The majority of our classes are located in the East Bay (including Walnut Creek and the 680 corridor), Marin, San Francisco, and the Peninsula.

Prior teaching experience is helpful, but not required. We provide the training, lesson plans and support to help you succeed in the classroom. Our aim is to create a rewarding experience for you and the students.

  • Knowledge of chess fundamentals

  • Experience working with children

  • Fun, engaging approach to conveying chess knowledge

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • Reliable personal transportation

Locations and Hours:

We are always looking for qualified instructors throughout the Bay Area to teach after-school classes on weekdays (one hour per day in the afternoon, usually between 1pm and 4pm). Typical assignment length is 8-12 weeks, and you are expected to commit to the full term of the contract.

Compensation:

Competitive hourly rate, $30-$40 per hour, depending on experience; varies by assignment.
