The Berkeley Chess School is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to sharing the joy and wonder of chess with as many young people as possible through instruction in the schools and tournament play.

Chess Champion Irina Krush Teaches Master Class

Advanced students at BCS summer camp had the opportunity to take a master class with US Women's Chess Champion Irina Krush in June. An International Master, Krush was the youngest-ever winner of the US Women's Chess Championship, winning the 1998 championship at the age of 14. She won again in 2007. The class was held during the first week of BCS' summer chess camp.

BCS First Moves Program: Five Teams Compete at JO Ford Schoolwide Tournament

Five class teams from 2nd thru 5th grade, including two bilingual classrooms, faced off at the first annual JO Ford Elementary Schoolwide Tournament on Tuesday. The competition drew members of the JO Ford Scholastic Team. Read all about it here!
