The Berkeley Chess School is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to sharing the joys and wonders of chess with as many young people as possible through instruction in the schools and tournament play.

Chess Students Showed Greater Gains on Math Test Scores and Better School Attendance, New Study Shows

An independent study conducted by the educational consulting firm Berkeley Policy Associates shows students in the BCS Oakland Chess Program who took chess for 20 or more weeks had significantly higher score gains on the math portion of the California Standards Test(CST), as well as better school attendance, than their non-chess taking peers.
