Berkeley Chess School Holds First Ever Winter Chess Camp
Camp attendance far exceeds organizers’ expectations
51 children ranging in age from 5 to 13 gathered at Hillside School in Berkeley during the holiday season to take part in the Berkeley Chess School’s Winter Chess Camp. The camp, which ran from December 29 - 31, included beginners as well as some of the top young players in the country. Read more

Berkeley Bishops Compete in Annual Ranking Tournament

Nearly seventy Berkeley Chess School students showed up to match their chess skills against some of the strongest young players in the nation. All of the participants, members of the elite Berkeley Bishops, took part in the BCS annual qualifier in preparation for competition with other local and state teams later this fall. Read more

 


Chess Champion Irina Krush Teaches Master Class

Advanced students at BCS summer camp had the opportunity to take a master class with US Women's Chess Champion Irina Krush in June. An International Master, Krush was the youngest-ever winner of the US Women's Chess Championship, winning the 1998 championship at the age of 14. She won again in 2007. The class was held during the first week of BCS' summer chess camp.

BCS First Moves Program: Five Teams Compete at JO Ford Schoolwide Tournament

Five class teams from 2nd thru 5th grade, including two bilingual classrooms, faced off at the first annual JO Ford Elementary Schoolwide Tournament on Tuesday. The competition drew members of the JO Ford Scholastic Team. Read all about it here!
