Walnut Creek Year End Team Tournament 2008
A Five Way Battle
April 2008 | Photos
This Saturday it was hard to tell what was hotter: the weather or the fierce struggle for first place. Last year's heavy hitters--Glorietta, Walnut Heights, and the former champions, Palmer School--found themselves in a close race with a surprising pair. Rheem School, seventh place finishers last year, pulled their way to the top right before the final round, and edged out Palmer by a hair, winning first place on tie breaks. Dorris-Eaton, last year unable to bring a complete team, arrived with sixteen players and finished in third place, just a half point out of first! The biggest surprise came from Sequoia School, who only began chess with the Berkeley Chess School this year, but still took tenth place.
Thanks to everyone for making this such a great event.
We'll see you at summer camp and be back at your school in September!
