BCS President Named a Bank of America Local Hero
Berkeley Chess School founder and president Elizabeth Shaughnessy has been named one of Bank of America's 2009 Local Heroes™. This award is given to five community leaders in each of Bank of America’s 45 markets around the country who “exemplify the highest standards in community service, championing causes vital to their communities and inspiring involvement,” according to the bank's website. Local Heroes have "special and significant impact on individuals, families, or communities."
The award comes with a prize of $5,000, which Shaughnessy will donate to the Berkeley Chess School. "I’m thrilled about this award," she said. "It’s so gratifying to receive this kind of acknowledgement for our many years of service to the Bay Area. I want to include the staff in this honor because whatever is done is a team effort."
