Berkeley Chess School Year End Team Championships 2012

In March, The Berkeley Chess School hosted two year-end tournaments. One for the Berkeley area, one for the Walnut Creek area. From these tournaments the top 4 teams from each area were chosen to compete in the Berkeley Chess School Year End Playoffs. The championship tournament took place last Saturday and the excitement lasted to the very last game! Each team was comprised of the top four players from each school.

Once the dust settled, Cornell Elementary School came out on top, claiming the honor of being the Berkeley Chess School Champions of 2012! It was a close race. In fact, Cornell was trailing Oceanview Elementary going into the last round. However, Cornell ended up going 4-0 in the final round, giving them the title.

One player from Los Perales could not make the playoffs. Luckily for the team, Richard Gross' brother, Leopold, was able to fill in! Leopold, just like his brother, had a great result at the Walnut Creek Year End Tournament. So, throughout the playoffs, the Gross brothers were playing side by side.
