NO CAMP on the week of July 4th
The BCS summer chess camp begins its 21st summer in Berkeley. There will be chess instruction at a minimum of four levels: Novice, Intermediate, Intermediate II, and Advanced. The program includes daily instruction and play, plus tournaments, prizes and a T-shirt. New material will be presented during each week of camp.
FULL DAY OPTION: This summer we will again offer an optional all-day program. Mornings will include unstructured play with both outdoor (sports) and indoor (art) options, or casual games for those who just can't get enough chess! Children may be dropped off as early as 8:00 AM and should bring their own lunch and snacks. Aftercare will continue until 5:30 PM.
The camp offers seven one-week sessions: June 20-24, June 27-July 1, July 11-15, July 18-22, July 25-29, August 1-5, August 8-12. Morning drop off is from 8:00am to 9:00 am, evening pickup is from 5:00 to 5:30 PM. The chess-only camp is from 1pm to 5pm.
Tournaments: There will be Bughouse tournaments periodically throughout the summer for summer camp attendees (pizza included), and a Summer Quad open to all.
Master Classes: This year Grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian will visit the Berkeley Chess School to teach our highest level Master Class on select weeks. On different weeks Grandmaster Alex Baburin as well as Grandmaster Sam Shankland will lead the Master Class.
Students must be approved by the Berkeley Chess School before enrolling in the Master Class. Students should have a USCF rating of 1000 or higher, or be recommended by their chess instructor.
Each class is limited to 20 students and will be filled according to the date the registration form is received.
We look forward to having you join us for a summer of chess (and more)!
