Berkeley Chess School Friday Night Team Championship Tournament Report
Team BCS has promising finishes at the Amateur Team West
The Berkeley Chess School assembled some of its finest students as part of the BCS Team at the Amateur Team West tournament. With coach Robin Cunningham at the helm, Ben Rood, Michael J. Wang, Justin Shen, and Jonathan Shan finished tied for 3rd overall and tied for the best under-2000 team! Additionally, the Berkeley Chess Club team, comprised of Michael Kenny, Greg Sarafian, Alan Glasscoe, Andrew Mueckenberger, and Carl Woebcke finished with 3.0/6.0. Finally, the Berkeley High School team, which included John Clara, Max Manga, Ella Hoffman, and Miranda Christ, finished with 2/6. Joshua Cao, a Berkeley Chess School alumnus, brought his team to a 4.0/6.0 finish and Sophia Li, another Berkeley Chess School student, took her all-female team to 3.0/6.0. The US Junior Congress is on March 23-24 and the Berkeley Chess School would like you to compete! This is a rare opportunity for children to win a National Championship and immortalize their names in the USCF National winners list, and all in our own backyard! This also is the only national tournament where you can play as the Berkeley Chess School team. Sign up through the Berkeley Chess School before March 9th to receive $5 off your entry fee (this reduction is reflected in the BCS online sign up form).
