GM Sam Shankland at the World Cup!
Four US players, reigning US Champion Gata Kamsky, GM Alexander Onischuk, GM Alexander Ivanov and the Berkeley Chess School Alumni, GM Sam Shankland, remain in the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. Sam completed his upset over GM Peter Leko when the 2700+ GM offered him a draw in a worse position, clinching Sam's ticket to round two. More news to come of the Berkeley Chess School Alum. Mayor Jean Quan Helps Launch 4th Year of Berkeley Chess School’s Outreach Program for Five Title 1 Schools in Oakland
On Friday, August 5, 2011, Mayor Jean Quan launched year 4 of the Berkeley Chess School’s Outreach program by drawing the names of the Title 1 Oakland classrooms that will participate in the program during the 2011-2012 school year.
