Chess Olympiad (Bled)

Russia and China won the gold medals in the recently concluded Chess Olympiad held in Bled, Slovenia.

The US men finished 41st on tiebreak with every team member losing rating points except second board Yasser Seirawan who scored 6 1/2 from 9 for a performance rating of 2689.

The women had their best ever result, finishing ninth on tiebreak and having had the satisfaction of beating the gold medal winners from China in their individual match.

First board Irina Krush carried the team, scoring an undefeated 9 from 13 (2533 performance rating) and narrowly missing an individual bronze medal.
