Year End Berkeley 2007

The Berkeley Area Elementary tournament gets better and better each year. This time we had record attendance, a nice ambience for students and parents, and beautiful weather. Chess kids from Head-Royce and Bentley would probably agree that this one was the best one ever, as those schools came in first and second place!
Oxford school continued its strong tradition by coming in third place. Beach school improved from last year's seventh place to take fourth place, losing the tiebreak to Oxford. Crossroads Christian, in only its second year of chess, took clear fifth place.
Special mention should go to J.O. Ford elementary which took 8th place in its second year of chess and Chinese Christian which, in its first year, cruised into 9th place.
Individual honors went to Danny Stoll and Sam Scherer with perfect 6.0 scores. CJ Novogradac and Diana Ren had perfect 5.0s going into the final round, CJ losing to Danny and Diana losing to Sam. Best game went to Darryl Mar of Rooftop school in San Francisco.
