8th Annual BCS Walnut Creek Area Tournament
Palmer Edges Out Coyote Creek - by a Hair
April 2007 | Photos

The Palmer School in Walnut Creek has crashed the party in a big way. In only its second year of chess, the Palmer team won our Walnut Creek Area tournament on April 21st. The Coyote Creek dynasty is still going strong, however, as the Coyote Creek team had to settle for the second place trophies by the slimmest of tiebreak margins. Glorietta, which similarly tied Coyote Creek last year before tiebreaks, had to settle for clear third place this year. Walnut Heights improved from seventh place last year to fourth this year.

Roland Zhu won the perfect score trophy, compiling a 6-0 score for Coyote Creek. Green Valley's Tudor Muntean had a perfect 5-0 before his final round clash with Roland. Also scoring 5.0 were Nathaniel Sauerberg, Guy Raber, and Marshall Lyon.

Thanks to everyone for making this such a great event. We'll see you at summer camp and be back at your school in September!
