Soroptimist International of Oakland Provides Support
for March All Girls Tournament

One nice thing about chess as a sport: No rainouts! Despite the rainiest March in recorded Bay Area history, the Berkeley Chess School had a smashing All Girls Tournament on March 11th. A near-record number of girls - seventy-three - came to play!

Thanks to the gracious support of Soroptomist International of Oakland (in its second year of sponsorship) BCS was able to run the tournament in a "quad" format, which meant more trophies and better matchups. Everyone was matched up with the other three girls closest in ability or age. Also new this time was rated play. Sixteen girls chose to play in our rated quads, so their games counted towards an official United States Chess Federation ranking.

Winners of each quad received a trophy and every participant received a medal for braving their opponents (and the weather). We will have another two All Girls tournaments next year and hope to see you there!.

For a list of all the winners, please check below.

Once again, we would like to thank Soroptomist International of Oakland for its continuing support of this event.
