GM Sam Shankland is coming back to Berkeley for a lecture and book signing! In 2018, Sam won the US Chess Champion and reached the elite level by breaking the 2700 (FIDE rating) barrier. He is a mainstay of the US Olympic Team, a two-time Olympiad Gold Medalist (2014 and 2016), and the winner of several international tournaments. Sam not only excels as a chess player, but also as a trainer and author. GM Shankland has worked as an analyst for the reigning World Chess Champion, Magnus Carlsen. Last year, Sam published his first book, Small Steps to Giant Improvement: Master Pawn Play in Chess, and this year he is presenting his second book: Small Steps 2 Success.

Everyone is welcome to the lecture and the book signing event! Sam will be sharing some of  the secrets that helped him improve his game. After the lecture, Sam will be happy to take pictures with attendees and sign his new book.

Lecture: 11:30 am – 12:30 pm

Intermission/Book Signing: 12:30pm – 1pm

Package 2.  Includes Sam’s new book and attendance to the signing event. If you can’t attend the event, Sam will sign the book and ship it anywhere within the U.S.:  $35
