The format will be a half hour lecture by BCS instructors Stephen Shaughnessy and Andrew Mueckenberger followed by a USCF-rated tournament game with a time control of G25/d5 (meaning each player has 25 minutes to complete their moves plus 5 extra seconds per move). Trophies to the top three players after the six-week tournament. It will be held in Portable 4 at Encinal High School 210 Central Ave. All ages welcome, although the lectures will be geared towards Intermediate and Advanced players.

The Berkeley Chess School has taught chess classes in Alameda schools for over two decades and has created this new class to allow Alameda residents a place to play rated games and expand their chess skills. The six-week session will cost $90. Children and adults are welcome to enroll in this program.
