The City of Berkeley Senior Chess Tournament
The First Annual City of Berkeley Senior Chess Championship was held at the South Berkeley Senior Center on May 29, 30 and 31 and drew 26 players. It proved to be a very strong tournament with Grandmaster Walter Browne adding the title of City of Berkeley Senior Champion to his many titles.
Tying for first with GM Walter Browne was International Master Elliot Winslow.
Third place overall went to Expert, Michael Walder.
In the A section Farid Watson and Andrew Lazerus tied for first place.
In the B section David Trestor won first place.
In the C section Elizabeth Shaughnessy won first place.
There were no participants in the D section.
In the non-rated section, first, second and third places went to Walter Wood, Brett Landrum and Gankhuyag Regzedmaa respectively.
Kerry Lawless and Alan Glasscoe did a great job as tournament directors, assisted by Michael J Wang.
The Berkeley Chess School sponsored the event.
